More of a shelter for local well-behaved, albeit quirky, homeless people rather than an actual backpacker hostel for international travellers. However, with the resident manager being on-site most of the time, making sure no one breaks the house rules, this place is a good compromise for a few nights. Within walking distance, there is a train and bus station for quick rides into downtown Dallas. And, almost best of all, in another direction and also within walking distance, there is an Aldi supermarket, along with other local shopping amenities - really good for inexpensive food (and drink), which you can then prepare in the hostel.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Good Southern hospitality reminded me of an old fashion bunkhouse for working class people. All races and chandras of life are welcome here from international travelers to local Texans. They barbecued chicken and shared it with me. There are musicians, rappers and artists who stay here. Friendly loving people ready for good conversation. The back yard is beautiful, has a barbecued, fire pit and and place to play basketball ro soccer. As well as lawn chairs. Lovely fenced back yard with lots of shade trees. We'll kept, I would stay here again
The manager was great. The owner advertises it as a backpackers for tourists, however it is more of a homeless shelter. The owner would not refund me after spending 1 hour there and i communicated fairly and nicely. I would not go there if I was female or not street smart in Dallas, as it potentially dangerous with obvious drug usage. I will say again, that the manager was very friendly and helpful. Obviously the owner doesn't have morals and is all about they money from anyone though. Thankyou.
I was eaten by bed bugs. Then management tried to say I brought them in but other people I work with stay here and they all have been bitten as well. Management does not care. The kitchen was discussing, all kinds of trash in the back yard. They refused to make restitution.
Probably the worst experience of my life, and I went to a lot of hostels ! I cannot describe what I lived : the place is nasty and horrible ; the guests are unwelcoming -to say the least- , scary and disrespectful (the we’re entering in the bedroom at 2am without reason and without closing the door). I never felt so unsafe in my life. I would have slept outside if it wasn’t that cold - and I mean it !! Don’t go there please.
